Dionysus sits in the lap of Hermes and is about to be handed over to Tropheus, his future tutor, and to the nymphs of Mount Nysa, three of which are preparing his bath. A nurse by the name Anatrophe sits nearby. The scene also features the personifications of Theogonia, Nectar and Ambrosia (4th century AD).
