Edessa (46 pictures, 4 videos)
Edessa stands at the transition from the plains to the mountains of Macedonia, on a steep, imposing site. The acropolis has a wall enclosing the Council House, the temples of Zeus Hypsistos and Dionysus, and the other public buildings. The lower city was encircled by a wall with well-built towers and gates, of which the most interesting is the south gate with the circular courtyard and the Via Colonnata (2nd century AD).
