Defended by well-preserved Byzantine and Medieval walls, the acropolis houses the remains of the Sanctuary of Athena Lindia (4th-2nd centuries BC). The city, with the remains of a 4th century BC theater, was founded at least as early as the Mycenaean period (14th-13th centuries BC). The city features a 3rd-2nd centuries BC Doric colonnaded plaza, while in the surrounding area lie the remains of the Tombs of Archokrates and of Kleoboulos (4th-3rd centuries BC).
