Didius Iulianus Marcus A Roman Senator who served in various positions in the Roman provinces of Achaea, Africa, Germania and Dalmatia under Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. When Pertinax was assassinated in March of 193 AD, Didius Iulianus won the Praetorians' support by promising them large sums of money, and that gave him the emperorship. However, some of the Roman forces in the provinces refused to acknowledge him as emperor. The legions in Syria supported Pescennius and those in Pannonia were loyal to Septimius Severus. When the latter approached Rome with his army the praetorians abandoned Didius. He was executed in June of 193.
