Stratos - Temple of Zeus Stratios (38 pictures)

The temple, built against the walls, dates from the 4th century BC. The peripteral temple hexastyle (6x11 columns), was never completed as indicated by the lack of finished detail. The structure is interesting because of the strong presence of Archaicisms such as the proportional ratio (1:2) and its length (100 feet), side by side with much later concepts including a combination of Doric and Ionic architectural elements (such as Doric peristasis, pronaos and opisthodomos both distyle in antis and the Ionic tripartite architrave as well as the Ionic colonnade on three sides of the cella).
