The very important site of Akrotiri, lying on a north-south axis to Telchines Street, has only been excavated to about half its estimated extent. The excavations have uncovered squares and several residential units, some of which were aristocratic residences. In the Square of the Mill there is a sanctuary with frescoed rooms depicting initiation rites-of-passage of boys.
