The site is located on the islet of Strongyle, now Palati, linked to Naxos by a narrow artificial causeway, close to the ancient port. The site features the remains of the incomplete pseudo-peripteral Ionic Archaic Temple of Apollo (540-530 BC). The museum, housed in the Venetian Ducal palace, has a good collection of Cycladic "idols" dating from the 3rd millennium BC, Mycenaean ceramics, and noteworthy examples of statuary dating from the 7th to the 2nd century BC.
