Sardis - Temple of Artemis (later: of Antoninus Pius and Faustina) (27 pictures)
The temple is believed to have gone under several construction phases, starting in the Hellenistic period (3rd century BC) and ending in the Roman (2nd century AD). In Roman times the temple became a double shrine and probably served as a temple to Emperor Antoninus Pius and his wife, Faustina. It was an Ionic pseudo-dipteral octastyle (8x20), measuring about 45 x 99m.
