Sardis (79 pictures)

Sardis is located on the Izmir-Usak road, about 80km west of Izmir. In this site there are remains even from the Palaeolithic period (500,000-17,000 BC). The altar to Artemis had existed since the beginning of the 4th century BC. The Synagogue, built in the 3rd century AD, is one of the largest ancient synagogues in Asia. Next to it is a complex of a gymnasium and baths from the same period. A colonnaded street was also found here.
