Knidos - Round Temple of Athena or Aphrodite (33 pictures, 1 videos)

This building belongs to the 2nd century AD, although it displays features of the Greek temple design. The foundations and three-stepped podium of the round temple (Tholos) are made of gray marble, while the superstructure is made of a soft porous stone. the temple is 13.45m in diameter. Its stepped entrance is to the east, facing the altar. The round cella was encircled by 18 columns topped with Corinthian Capitals. The temple, which was earlier identified as a temple of Aphrodite, is now thought to have been dedicated to Athena.
