Dor (122 pictures)

Just off the Carmel coast line, on a raised gravel mound, lies a Tel beneath which the ancient city of Dor is situated. It is believed that during the 12th century BC a people known as "Goyai Ha'Yam" populated the region. The city was fortified continuously until the 4th century BC. In the 4th and 5th centuries BC Dor was rebuilt in true Hellenistic style. The Greeks erected the city walls, towers, gateways, temples and a variety of secular establishments.
