In the vicinity of the fertile Ayalon valley, along the Jerusalem Jaffa thoroughfare, lies a Tel upon which the ancient city of Jazar was once built. During the Bronze Age, Jazar was populated by Canaanites. An altar found in the middle of the city dates it back to the 12th-13th centuries BC. This holy site features ten large stone tombstones which form a straight line. Subsequent digs have revealed parts of the ancient city's walls and its main gateway.
