In the midst of the modern Arab village of "Jish" archeological ruins of the ancient Jewish settlement "Gush Halav" can be found. The settlement is well known for its active participation in the Jewish revolt against the Romans (66-73 AD). Ancient burial sites from the later Roman and Byzantine periods have survived and are located within the Arab village. In a nearby field lie the ruins of an ancient synagogue, including a lintel, adorned with Aramaic inscriptions.
