Hamat Tiberias (22 pictures)
Hamat Tiberias, located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, was known for its healing hot springs even before the country was conquered by Joshua. The city became the southernmost of the fortified towns of the tribe of Naphtali, and was inhabited during the Roman, Byzantine and Omayyad periods (1st century BC – 11th century AD). Excavations discovered several synagogues dating from between the 1st and 8th centuries, parts of the city's wall, two towers and a street.
