Tel Yizrael lies on the southeastern rim of Yizrael Valley. Recent archaeological excavations discovered here a large fortified compound that dates from the 9th century BC. It was probably the palace of the kings of the house of Omri, among them Ahab and Jezebel, who are mentioned in the Bible.
