Palaepaphos - Sanctuary of Aphrodite (50 pictures)
According to myth, Aphrodite was born from the sea near the shore of Paphos. We can see now the remains of the first sanctuary of the 12th century BC, where the goddess was worshipped as an aniconic symbol – a conical stone – till the Roman times. The ruins of the Roman temple erected in the 1st-2nd centuries AD are next to the sanctuary.
