Mamshit (Kurnub) (260 pictures)

Mamshit is situated 7km east of Dimona, alongside the main road to Eilat. Within the Park, that includes Mamshit Stream and its antique dams, lies the ancient Roman-Nabatean city of Mamshit. Most of its buildings were built during the Late Nabatean period, after 106 AD. Later the city was encompassed by a wall, whose gate can still be seen. The remains include coins, two large houses, a tower, a marketplace, a bathhouse and two Byzantine churches (5th century). As one of the towns along the Incense Route it was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2005.
