Oplontis (Torre Annunziata) (478 pictures)
A splendid Roman villa, located about 5 km from Pompeii at Torre Annunziata. The villa was erected in the 1st century BC and is attributed to Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero. The villa contains exceptional frescoes and mosaics in a beautiful architectural setting. It also features large gardens and porticoes. The private baths of the house can also be seen, complete with a caldarium and a tepidarium. The villa was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997.
