Troy is located 22km south to Canakkale. Troy was destroyed and rebuilt many times. Until now archaeologists have found 9 levels. The earliest remains are from the Neolithic period (8,000-4,000 BC).The archaeological findings in the site include an ancient sanctuary from the 8th century BC, a tower and a gate from the middle and late Bronze Age (2,400-1,400 BC), a Roman odeon, a trench and an impressive paved ramp. The archaeological site of Troy was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1998.
