Erice (57 pictures)
The area was already settled in the 5th century BC. The church seen today is the Chiesa Matrice of the 14th century. With it is a powerful battlemented tower pierced by lancet windows. In front of the church is an ogival-arched porch with Gothic features, added in the 15th century. The interior, which has an aisled nave, is the product of rebuilding in Neo-Gothic style during the 19th century.
