The Genna Maria nuraghe in Villanovaforru is a Nuraghic complex, whose central tower dates back to 1500 BC. The castle with its three towers, central courtyard and well was added later, and then successively an outer wall with six towers was built. The remains of the primitive dwellings lie outside the fortified structure, together with communal areas and pottery and iron workshops.
