St. Barnabas monastery is located in Salamis. St. Barnabas is regarded as the founder of the Church of Cyprus in about 47 AD. He is said to have been murdered in Salamis in 49 AD. The monastery was built in 477 AD where his body had been found. The present day building of the church dates from the 18th century and was built on the ruins of its forerunner dating from the 10th century.
