Cape Sounion (44 pictures, 3 videos)
The peninsula of Sounion was inhabited from the prehistoric period, and there seems to have been some form of cult there in Mycenaean times. Excavations revealed that there was an organised sanctuary here already in the Geometric period (10th-7th centuries BC). The Temple of Poseidon is from the early 5th century BC. Two temples of Athena are preserved. An irregular circular enclosure near the temples was identified as the Sanctuary of Phrontis.
