The entire site of Delphi was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1987. The famous Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios was built around the end of the 9th century BC on the site of a previous Mycenaean settlement (15th-12th centuries BC) that, it seems, was already an important cult center. Other noteworthy findings in Delphi are the Temple of Athena (6th century BC), the Sacred Way (5th-4th centuries BC), the Roman Agora (5th-6th centuries AD), several thesauri and a tholos.
