The very important site of Epidauros, with its Sanctuary of Asklepios, was famous throughout the ancient world. The magnificent theater, perhaps the best-preserved of the ancient world, was built in 350 BC. The guest house was built towards the end of the 4th century BC. Other important structures are the public baths, the gymnasium, the odeon, the stadium, the tholos and the Temple of Artemis. The site was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.
