Mallia is located on the northern coast of Crete. The first palace in the site was built in 1900 BC and destroyed in 1700 BC along with the other palaces on the island. The new palace was erected in about 1650 BC, and its final destruction by fire occurred in about 1450 BC. Excavations have uncovered a mostly two-story structure similar to those already seen in terms of ground plan and height.
