The site is located near the village of Geyre in the district of Karacasu, 38km south of Nazilli. It was occupied as early as the late Neolithic Period (6th-4th millennia BC). One of the most attractive landmarks of Aphrodisias is a decorative gateway (tetrapylon) datable to the 2nd century. The stadium is probably the best preserved structure in the Mediterranean. Other structures that were found here are an odeon, a 1st century BC theater and a Sebasteion.
