Monfort (92 pictures)

The picturesque Crusader castle Monfort is located on a narrow mountain, in the west of the Upper Galilee, above Kziv River. The castle, built in the 12th century, was used for protecting the nearby agricultural lands, whose owner settled in the "king's castle" in Ma'ilia. The castle was occupied by Saladin in 1187 and re-occupied by the Crusaders after a while. Finally it was sold to the German Tabatonic Order. In 1271 the castle was surrendered to the Mamluks.
