Paneas (Banias, Caesarea Philippi) (324 pictures, 14 videos)
The place was named after the god Pan since a Paneon - Temple of Pan - was built here by the flowing river. Panias was the capital of Agrippas II (1st century AD), whose palace's remains can still be seen. A large Syrian house leaning on a Crusade tower is located near the moat surrounding the town. Also discovered in the area: a large public structure (1st century AD), a colonnaded cardo, traces of a Byzantine church and underground passages.
